So far, the total number of entries for the 2018 edition stands at 1,245 runners, a 51% increase compared to the 824 participants registered this time last year.

The Gran Canaria Marathon and Cajasiete have renewed their sponsorship agreement until 2020. This means that the financial institution will continue to be the race´s main sponsor for the next three editions.

Francisco Armas, manager of the Temporary Business Association (TBA) organizing the Gran Canaria Marathon, as well as Cajasiete´s director of Institutional Relations and Communication, José Manuel Garrido, presented the new agreement at the Gran Canaria Arena. They were joined by the Vice President and Councillor for Sports of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Angel Víctor Torres, as the race is considered one of the Cabildo´s Main Events, and part of the Gran Canaria European Island of Sport project.

Torres congratulated the organizing TBA on the event´s progress and thanked Cajasiete for their continuing sponsorship.

The Councillor for Sports stated that the race was achieving “figures that were unthinkable a few years ago.” So far, the total number of entries for the 2018 edition has reached 1,245 runners, a 51% increase compared to the 824 registered this time last year. In the main distance, the Marathon, the number of runners signed up is 418, compared to 279 at the end of June last year.

Both the Half Marathon as well as the 10 kilometer race have also broken records. The Half Marathon has 438 registered runners already, 101 more than this time last year, while the 10-kilometer race has 389 runners signed up, compared to the 208 in June 2016.

Furthermore, Torres is confident that the Cajasiete Gran Canaria Marathon 2018 has not only strenghthened its position among the top 10 marathons in the country, but is ranked highly in this national ranking. He also reminded those present that the race “continues to grow and break records year after year”.

Cajasiete´s director of Institutional Relations and Communications, José Manuel Garrido, stated that renewing the sponsorship agreement for the next editions was “a real honour” and added that, “it is not just about putting our name to the race, but of being involved in and working with the event.” Garrido explained that the negotiations with the organizing TBA were “straightforward” because they share common objectives, “like a culture that rewards hard work, as well as promoting Gran Canaria economically and socially”.

Francisco Armas, manager of the Temporary Business Association (TBA) organizing the Gran Canaria Marathon, was equally satisfied with the agreement reached and detailed the work that the organization was carryiong out to boost the Cajasiete Gran Canaria Marathon´s national and international profile.

The TBA has carried out different promotional campaigns in the marathons of Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, San Sebastian, Rome, Hannover, Paris, Hamburg, Vienna, Prague or Stockholm, amongst other large cities. These campaigns will continue throughout the year in order to increase the race´s visibility as well as the number of runners taking part.

Likewise, Armas explained that they are working closely with the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to coordinate the necessary changes to the race´s circuit as a result of the works that, over the next few years, will go on in the city due to the MetroGuagua.
